Summer vacation is over, and students are back in school, ready to start the month learning something new and exciting, but let’s not forget the back to school donations that took place over the weekend on Saturday, August 11, 2024 at the shops and boutiques downtown from 10am-6pm. Many businesses like The Refinery, Reeves, The Southern Apparel, The Farmer’s Wife, and many others offered 10% and 25% discounts on folders, expo markers, Clorox wipes, and gel pens. Afterwards, the city dropped off the donations at the board office on Friday, August 16th at 3pm. The community event director, Claire Phillips, organized the third year back to school donations. This was Phillips first year organizing the event, and she stated, “It served as an excellent opportunity to draw people downtown while supporting our community. We would like to thank everyone who participated and contributed to its success.”
