Betty Mayenell (Nell) Daughtry Olds, age 87, of Bainbridge, Georgia, passed away on July 15, 2024. Betty Mayenell Daughtry Olds was born on May 27, 1937 in Ozark, Alabama to her parents, Jesse James and Lillie Mae Childree Daughtry. Nell married Winford Olds on November 2, 1958 and had a family of 6 children- 3 boys and 3 girls. She and Winford moved to Bainbridge in 1964 after which they moved to Pelham, Alabama. After spending two years in Pelham, they returned to Bainbridge to live. Nell drove a bus for Bainbridge Christian Academy and also worked at Miller Hydro. For 25 years, she worked as a dietician assistant at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital where she retired at the age of 81.
An avid Alabama football fan, you knew not to visit Nell wearing any other collegiate attire than Bama or it would have been a short visit. Affectionately called by her great-grandchildren “Old Nanny”, “Nanny”, “Big Mae” or “Nana”, Nell was a spunky, sassy lady who always spoke her mind. She was set in her ways and was “as bossy as they come”. When she spoke, her children jumped. Her dog, Freckles, was a special companion, and she enjoyed walking him. At her house, Westerns were always on the television, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always entertained and fine dining to Nell was a fresh tomato sandwich. A lady with a great sense of humor, Nell was known for her wonderful Sunday dinners enjoyed by her family. Miss Nell was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Nell Olds is survived by her children Allan (Tammi) of Fayette, Alabama, Cindy Flowers of Cairo, Georgia, Mark Olds (Vera) of Climax, Amy Phillips, Libby Olds, and Tim Olds all of Bainbridge. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Steven Olds, Stephanie Ivey, Chris Olds, David Olds, Rachel Olds, Allan Womble, Daniel Womble, Mallory Barrett, Mandy Flowers, Alex Flowers, Kjersten Phillips, Melodie Phillips, Micailah Cross, Ava Alday, Chris Olds, Kyle Olds and Katie Edwards as well as 26 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Barbara (Bill) Bacon of South Dakota and Carolyn Jacobs of Huntsville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winford Olds, her parents, her great-grandsons, Dylan Olds and Sylar Smith, and her siblings, James Daughtry and Margaret Owens.
