Charles Edwin Whittington, age 80, of Bainbridge, formerly of Sylvester, Georgia, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Providence Primitive Baptist Church with Pastor Bruce Gordon officiating. A graveside service will follow at Providence Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www .iveyfuneral.com. Charles was born May 11, 1942, in Tifton, Georgia, the son of Willie Clarence Whittington and Minnie Ozelia Medders Whittington. Charles grew up on the family farm in Worth County where he worked alongside his father and brother. He was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed playing gospel music at home and in churches. Once he moved to Bainbridge, he became a longtime resident of the Don Duvall Home. Charles enjoyed ice cream, listening to the scanner, and playing the piano. He developed a close relationship to residents and caregivers of the home. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends there. Charles worked at Decatur Seminole Service Center both in recycling and the yard crew, where he loved to drive the lawn mower. He was a member of Special Friends Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Bainbridge. Survivors include his brother, Royce Whittington (Nada) of Bainbridge, Ga.; niece, Kathy Varner (Fields) of Bainbridge, Ga.; and great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. Charles was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Providence Primitive Baptist Church, 3424 GA Highway 313, Sylvester, GA 31791.
