On Thursday March 30, the Grace Christian Academy Cougars and their new coach Carlos Becerra earned an impressive victory against St. Teresa as they scored five goals with three different Cougars getting in on the scoring action. For Becerra, one of his goals with the Cougars was to put an emphasis on playing as one as a team and the Cougars did just that against St. Teresa.

In their win, Reece Atkinson and Henry Lee gave the Cougars a spark on offense as they both scored two goals a piece and Pate Beckham added another one of his own to help lift the Cougars to a win. The pace and offense of the Cougars was on display as they consistently controlled the time of possession.

Early in March when head coach Carlos Becerra was hired, one of his goals was to continue to grow the game of soccer in the community while also teaching his team principles that they can use in their everyday lives. During their win, you could see that sentiment echoed as the Cougars played as one family with smiles on their faces.

“I hope they take away the many different life skills they can learn through playing soccer,” said Becerra in March. “Such as hard work, decision making, problem-solving, and communication. Through healthy competition they can also learn the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship. Most importantly I hope they all enjoy the beauty of the game.”
