After a win to open their new baseball facilities and the 2023 season, the Grace Christian Academy Cougars and their baseball program are making exceptional strides in 2023 with first year head coach Ryan Riles. Most recently, the Cougars defeated Robert F Munroe 10-0 as the game was called after five innings.

With four games down into the season, the Cougars sit with a 2-2 record overall, but that doesn’t tell the full story. In a matchup with Terell Academy who is considered one of the strongest teams in their region and has a historic championship resume, the Cougars battled until the end, falling a 4-3 nail-biter.

Despite the loss, being competitive and being able to be in situations to win have been something that first year head coach Ryan Riles has brought to the program. Riles has spent countless hours of practice and training to help improve each player.

“We’ve been playing better and better each game,” said Riles. “These guys work really hard and we just need to keep working and getting better. If we keep doing our thing and stay consistent we’re going to put ourselves in winning situations. Whether it’s eliminating errors in the field, being smart in the basepath or being disciplined at the plate, our guys have been doing a great job.”

In the Cougars most recent win against Robert F Munroe, starting pitcher Aiden Whittaker was an ace on the mound for the Cougars as he pitched five innings, notching 11 strikeouts and only allowing one hit.

On the offensive end, right fielder Landon Temples led the Cougars with three RBI’s followed by Hines Roberts and Oathen Atkinson as they both knocked in two runs a piece.

As the Cougars secured their second win of the season on Thursday night, they now will travel to Cordele on Thursday, March 2 as they take on Crisp Academy at 4:00p.m.
