James Brock, 67, of Bainbridge, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Climax Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Poppell officiating.  A private interment will be held at Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with John Mills, Trey Mock, Jerry Wayne Baggett, Collier Baggett, Charles Harrell, and Wendell Cofer serving as active pallbearers. Wiley Griffin, Sammy Perkins, Cuy Harrell, and Dr. Sydney Cochran will serve as honorary pallbearers.

James Edwin Brock was born July 9, 1955, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Hubert & Annie Lou Boutwell Brock. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1973. Right out of high school, he married Robbie Duncan, and they made their home in Bainbridge. James served his community as a firefighter, retiring as Assistant Chief with Bainbridge Public Safety. He was a member of Climax Baptist Church.

James lived the majority of his adult life serving his community with the Fire Department. When he retired, he began living life on his terms. He worked cows, piddled at the farm, tended the pecan orchard, went where he wanted to when he wanted to and stayed home otherwise. He enjoyed a Bearcat ballgame but often claimed it was causing his pressure to go up when players & coaches weren’t understanding his play calls. James couldn’t hear it thunder and sometimes wanted to put up a hard front. Sidebar comments, especially when he hadn’t heard the full conversation, caused you to chuckle and were always followed with that grin and, “HUH? What ya say? You know I can’t hear.” He has been described as grumpy a time or two but loved big. You knew you were special when he dropped off okra he cut, pecans, satsumas, or whatever else he had in abundance from the garden, a hunting trip, or adventure fishing. Sometimes he would say, “Y’all come to the house” knowing he would grill something delicious and sit back to watch you enjoy it. For sure when something was on his mind, he wanted it taken care of right then. James randomly stopped in to check on his people, and sometimes invited them to ride the river on the pontoon boat…but only during the week when it wasn’t crowded. “The Girls” (including Robbie) were his pride and joy but Brock was his right hand. He loved Roy & Tru and thought they were his sons sent straight from Heaven. James didn’t have the best, want the best, or need the best (stuff); he made friendships for a lifetime and believed that is what life was all about.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Robbie Duncan Brock; his children, Brittney Brock Mathews and Kelli & Tru Dickson; his grandchildren, Ramsey Mathews, Carlee Mathews, Allee Grace Dickson, and Brock Dickson; and his siblings, Dewayne Brock of Climax, Coleman Brock (Wynelle) of Lake City, FL, Jean Silas (Harold) of Lake Seminole, and Cathy Moore (Doug) of Lake City, FL. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Roy Mathews.
