Steve Wooten, 69, of Climax, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Climax Baptist Church with Pastor John Woodrum officiating.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens with Hal Clement, Jon Lee, Cary Milligan, Fred Wooten, Jeff Griffis, and Alan Bennett serving as active pallbearers. Joe Kidd, Clay Jones, Roy Adams, Buddy Adams, Johnny Skipper, Jerry Sharber, and members of the Sugarbranch Hunting Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.bryantfuneralga.com. Steven Lee Wooten was born June 21, 1953, in Homerville, GA, the son of Perry & Barbara Ann Steedley Wooten. After high school, Steve earned an associate degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He married Judi Griffis in 1974. They made their home in Orlando, Florida until 1989 when they made the move to southwest Georgia. Steve retired as the terminal supervisor for Shell Oil Company, originally Texaco, with 41 dedicated years of service. He was Christian by faith.

Steve served as the President of the Sugarbranch Hunting Club for over thirty years. He loved deer hunting and turkey hunting. Of course running his deer dogs brought a new level of excitement to every trip. And scoring a turkey grand slam was definitely in the history books. Steve was such a good shot, his gun was named “Death”. He and Judi traveled to Texas and South Dakota to hunt. (It is rumored he is the only person to cry when hunting season ended.) To fill his time otherwise, he fished bass tournaments and participated in the BASS circuit. Steve was a good man and a good businessman, well respected among his peers. His kids joke he loved his dogs as much as he loved them.

The man could cook. He only knew how to feed the masses. He loved a good meal and time with his family. He enjoyed times when Judi, Fred, Lisa and the grandbabies would all get together. Fred & Lisa are the first to say they couldn’t have asked for a better man as their Daddy.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Judi Griffis Wooten; his children, Fred Wooten (Lisa) of Climax and Dr. Lisa Wooten Martin (Brent) of Bainbridge; his grandchildren, McKenzie, Becca, Brier, Braeden, Brynlee, and Betton; his adopted son, Jason Logue, his wife, Molly, and their daughter, Sarah Grace; his sisters, Jeane Wooten of Mercerville, NJ and Lyn Wooten of Clermont, FL; his aunt, Betty Steedley; and a host of extended family. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his best friend, Larry Bryan.
