This weekend was a busy one for the Bainbridge-Decatur County Humane Society, with two back-to-back events: the first being a meet and greet with the Humane Society’s mascot Paws at the Tinsel Trail on Friday night, followed with a donation drive and photos with Santa at Avie Lou & Brother on Saturday morning.

Kimberly Harrell, a member of the humane Society’s board of directors, spoke with the Post-Searchlight about the events. Paws was present at the Humane Society’s tree on the Tinsel Trail, available to take pictures, as well as accept donations of pet food and supplies. The event with Avie Lou & Brother, “Paws and Clause”, has been going on for three years. According to Harrell, the Humane Society was approached by the store about this event. In addition to photos with Santa and accepting donations, kids could make “reindeer food” as well.

Harrell stated that here was a good turnout, namely for the Paws and Clause event, with the Society receiving a car full of pet food and supplies donated. “We are so grateful for the opportunities to be visible in our community and raise awareness about the Humane Society and its mission to ‘Help the Helpless’ during the holiday season,” she said.

Kenzi Merchant with Avie Lou & Brother also spoke to the Post-Searchlight about Paws and Clause. Merchant, who studied to be a vet tech, said animals were “near and dear” to her, and she wanted to use her business as a platform to help them. “I kinda wanted to do it to bring joy to both sides, to kids and animals,” she said.
