Margaret Hazel Williams was born May 5, 1927, in Whigham, Ga., the daughter of

Mr. & Mrs. James Oliver Williams. She was a graduate of Whigham High School and went on to earn an associates degree in music from Andrew College. Hazel also attended Florida State College for Women. She taught school in Grady County, Glynn County, and Thomas County. Hazel married the love of her life, Nelson Westbrooks, who brought music to her daily for 51 years. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church.

Hazel was busy in her golden years. She was a member of Dewberry-Forrester Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She volunteered at The Friendship House of Jesus, Bainbridge Health & Rehab, and Vashti Center. Hazel loved music and took on roles in church choirs at Cairo FUMC, Brunswick FUMC, and Bainbridge FUMC. She was particular about details and had a plan in mind for how things should work. Hazel shared her thoughts freely and didn’t mind redirecting you to her way of doing things if she thought you were straying from the plan.

Survivors include her nieces, Martha Brown of Donalsonville and Catherine Elkins (David) of Cairo; her sister-in-law, Martha Williams of Camilla; her great-nieces & nephews, Mike & Ola Elkins, Douglas & Michelle Elkins, Claudia Brown, and Cathy & John Bridges; and a host of extended family. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Nelson C. Westbrooks, Jr., and her brothers, Bill Williams and James Dilworth Williams.
