James Monroe Pace, Jr. was born November 8, 1937, in Valdosta, Ga., the son of James Monroe Pace, Sr. and Elizabeth Taylor Pace and grandson of J.C. & Elizabeth “Granny” Taylor. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1955, and the University of Georgia, Class of 1962. Jim was a practicing attorney for 56 years. During that tenure, he served as State Court Judge and Municipal Court Judge. For years, he was active at First Baptist Church and later became a member at First Presbyterian Church.

You could expect quick wit and a dry sense of humor on most any given day or occasion. Even in his last days, “the Judge” made jokes with his half-smile. He loved people and loved serving them. In his younger years, Jim was active in Jaycees and Lion’s Club. He served as a Bearcat football announcer giving the play-by-play. Jim’s nature was “to know” and that he did. He would call people sometimes and say, “Tell me what you know about…” He was musically inclined, not only playing the French horn, piano & organ, but also singing. He even acted a little. Most that knew him well, knew he could be his own one-act play. Jim enjoyed woodworking and boating. Every Wednesday you could find him chewing the fat, catching up on the news, and appreciating the antics of his fellow members at the Wednesday Night OFC meeting.

Survivors include his children, Sharon Pace Proudfoot (Harry) of Brunswick, Susan Pace Foster (Brian) of Marietta, Linda Kathryn Pace also of Marietta, Emily Pace McCoy (Mark) of Athens, Sean McGraw (Karly) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Brian McGraw also of Jacksonville; his grandchildren, Abby Elizabeth Foster and Samantha Joy Foster; his step-grandchildren, Liam, Kadyn, Madison, Meagan, Eva, and Toby; and his siblings, Betty Pace Dozier, John Pace, and Gail Pace Akin. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Suzanne Glorieux Pace.
