Betty Lou Smith, age 82, of Bainbridge, Georgia, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022, in Bainbridge, Georgia. Betty was born May 20, 1940, in Holden, Missouri, to George Washington and Hazel Mattie Hurr. Betty grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from North East High School in 1958. She attended the School of Cosmetology and worked as a registered licensed cosmetologist. She married her husband Billy W. Smith on April 14, 1961. They have two children, William B. Smith of Bainbridge, Georgia, and Belinda L. Smith (Allen) of Summerville, South Carolina.

Betty enjoyed being a mother and military wife as well as working as a cashier at a variety of stores. She was the Country Store Manager at Calloway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Additionally, she attended and completed the schooling and became a licensed real estate agent. Betty was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. She enjoyed playing canasta with the Tuesday Lady’s Canasta Club. Betty grew up attending Bele’s Baptist Church in Kansas City where she was baptized. She attended the Church of Christ of Jacksonville, North Carolina, where she was also baptized.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents George W. and Hazel Hurr; Sisters: Wilma Brown, Georgia Moody, and Shirley Steele; and Brother: Robert E. Hurr. Survivors include her husband, Billy William Smith; children, Son: William B. Smith; Daughter: Belinda L. Smith (Allen); Granddaughter: Celeste Smith; Brother: William K. Hurr; many friends, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel
with Reverend James Scarborough officiating. Interment will be at Meriwether Memory Gardens in Manchester, Georgia. Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending are asked to maintain the recommended safe social distancing of six feet and/or wear protective masks in accordance with the State of Georgia guidelines.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
