ScoopS’ owner Sherry Young loves her job and being able to serve sweet, smiling faces daily. Her love for the community extends beyond that of just the day-to-day operations, as she recently took her business on wheels to give back to others.

On Friday, July 1, Young took her mobile ice cream truck to serve City employees for an Appreciation Day.

Young said she reached out to City Engineer Gabe Menendez about her idea, who was more than happy to welcome her.

“We wanted to serve the city crews because we see them working hard out in this heat,” Young said. “We thought a scoop of ice cream might help them cool off and it would let ScoopS show a little appreciation for their hard work.”

Young wasn’t done just yet. She then reached out to Jonny Payne of the Friendship House, and asked if she could bring her mobile truck to the program.

When she arrived on Wednesday, the kids were ecstatic to see her again.

Payne had previously brought the children on a field trip to ScoopS back in February.

“We enjoyed them coming so much, so we decided to give back,” Young said. “The kids were so happy to see us.”

The kids had the opportunity to choose from several flavors: vanilla, chocolate, cookies n’ cream or superman, with superman being a top choice.

“It’s just fun having a happy place like ScoopS that no matter what age, you can find something that will make you smile,” Young said.

Young looks forward to seeing more smiles in the future, as she continues to look for more ways to serve the community.
