With the mild spring weather settling in, a crowd gathered downtown on the square to relax and enjoy the Bainbridge high School jazz band’s annual Jazzin’ the Park concert. This was an un-judged performance, simply meant to be a performance for the parents and community. This marks the fourth year the band has done this.

According to Band Director James Sewell, the practice and preparation time for this concert usually consists of practicing one or twice a week, for three to four months. “But this year, we didn’t get started until April due to the trip to San Antonio,” Sewell said. “So we were meeting for an hour and half at night two to three times for three weeks.”

Some of the songs performed at the concert include What a Wonderful World, Back a Town, and The Answer is in the Blues, alongside classics like Just a Closer Walk and the Star Spangled Banner.

“Everyone enjoys this concert,” Sewell said. “ Its relaxed and many people bring their dinner with them to eat during the concert.”

Sewell said in closing, “Thank you to all of the students for putting in the extra time to prepare for the performance. Thank you to the parents, community, and administration for all of your continuing support!”
