Bearcats Track and Field claim Region 1-AAAA Championship at Hugh Mills

The Bainbridge High School Boys Track Team won the Region 1-AAAA Championship over the weekend at Hugh Mills Stadium, beating out Thomas County Central, Monroe, Westover, Dougherty and Cairo with 174.5 points. The Lady Cats also had a good showing, placing 4th, beating Dougherty and Cairo.

For the Lady Cats, Angel Peterson kicked things off with the first event of the morning.

Peterson placed 6th in the Girls 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:06.49.

Zamiyah Ofton then placed 4th with a time of 2:44.13 in the 800M Dash.

In the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles, Arrieanna Hines places 4th with a time of 17.83.

Daviona Mckay had a jump of 4’-06,” placing her 5th in the Girls High Jump.

Peterson was back again, placing 2nd in the Girls Long Jump with a distance of 17’-08.” Peterson also placed 2nd in the Girls Triple Jump with a distance of 35’-09.50.”

Treasure Jenkins got the Lady Cats first 1st place win of the day in Girls Shot Put. She threw for a distance of 36’-08.”

Raven Williams got another 1st place win in the Girls Discus Throw. Williams threw for a distance of 122’-06”, while Jenkins placed 3rd, throwing for a distance of 101”-00.”

With these wins, the Lady Cats were able to amass a total of 63 points.

The Bearcats then took to the track.

Kelmarri Glover was up first for the Boys 100 Meter Dash, placing 4th with a time of 11.40.

Davonte Stepney then placed 5th in the Boys 400 Meter Dash with a time of 52.48.

Stepney had a great showing in the 800 Meter Run, giving the Bearcats their first 1st place win of the day.

Stepney had a time of 2:06.63. Ali Mackey got the Bearcats additional points with a 5th place win.

The Bearcats then took to the 1600 Meter Run, where they took home 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Landon Watts came in 1st with a time of 4:53.45. Caden Godwin placed 2nd with a time of 5:09.15 and Jahlae Sapp came in 3rd just seconds later with a time of 5:14.93.

Watts, Sapp and Godwin took the top three spots again in the Boys 3200 Meter Run.

Watts claimed 1st with a time of 10:42.11, while Sapp placed 2nd with a time of 11:28.20 and Godwin took 3rd with a time of 11:28.86.

The Bearcats were now on a role, taking home 1st in the past three events, and it wouldn’t stop there.

Antavious Murphy won the Boys 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 15.18, while Jace Weaver won 2nd place with a time of 15.71.8

Murphy also took first in the Boys 300 Meter Hurdles. He had a time of 40.81. Weaver took 2nd again with a time of 41.30 and Braylon Phillips got 6th place, giving the Bearcats some extra points.

The Bearcats got 5th place in the 4×100 Meter Relay with a time of 44.33. The team was comprised of Keenan Phillips, Antavious Murphy, Rodrick Hamilton and Zion Bouie.

The Bearcats made a comeback in the Boys 4×400 Meter Relay, winning 2nd place with a time of 3:34.29.

The team consisted of Davonte Stepney, Trevon Campbell, Jace Weaver and Antavious Murphy.

Stepney didn’t stop with the 4×400, helping the Bearcats get a win in the 4×800 Meter Relay.

He, along with Caden Godwin, Landon Watts and Jahlae Sapp, claimed 1st with a time of 9:01.20.

Trevon Campbell then placed 5th in the Boys High Jump.

Keenan Phillips took home a 3rd place win in the Boys Long Jump with a distance of 20-11.00.

Trevon Campbell grabbed 1st place for the Boys Triple Jump with a distance of 45-11.00, while Davayon Stroud claimed 5th with a distance of 43-05.50.

Delvron Jackson got 4th place for Boys Shot Put, while Travious Freeman got 6th place.

Jackson finished off the meet with a 5th place win in Boys Discus Throw. Several of the athletes will now travel to compete in Sectionals in Carrollton, Georgia.
