Donald Jordon Newbern was born October 31, 1937, in Pearson, Ga., the son of Harvey & Lois Sutton Newbern. After high school, he married Geraldine Holton. They made their home in Brunswick and then moved to Lake Seminole some thirty years ago. Don worked as a chemical operator for LCP. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Don was affectionately known as “Pop Pop” to most everyone on his side of “the lake”. His nature was to help and that he did at every opportunity. Pop Pop was always busy doing something. He mowed almost every yard on his street and, of course, kept the fish moving.  Don enjoyed watching old westerns and fishing shows. He loved unconditionally and leaves his family with sweet memories and plenty of tales from their adventures on the lake.

Survivors include his children, Dwayne & Ginger Newbern of Lake Seminole; his sister, Marlene Sears of Regalwood, N.C.; his grandchildren, DJ & Anna, Adam, and Holton & Alexis; his great-grandchildren, Emma, Gemma, AndreeAnna, and Brayden; and his neighborhood family, Mickey Smith, Christopher Smith, and Bob Atwood. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Geraldine H. Newbern, and his brothers, John Newbern and Bob Newbern.
