Former Bainbridge High School graduate, Davis Booth has taken on a big adventure since graduating from Eastern New Mexico University with a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) concentration area in Electronics Engineering Technology (Digital) in fall 2021: working for NASA.

Booth, who also holds an Associate of Arts from Tallahassee Community College and is pursuing a master’s degree in space system engineering from John Hopkins University, recently shared details about his role at NASA and his time at ENMU.

Booth currently works as a contractor at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. He has two titles as a test engineer and as an electrical ground support equipment engineer. He said he has dreamed of working at NASA since he was a little kid.

“Every day I go to work, I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming,” he was quoted as saying in a recent interview with ENMU.

While working at NASA, Booth said he has found the challenges of solving difficult problems the most rewarding.

“NASA gives me the opportunity to take on new roles and expand my knowledge,” he said.

Previously, he had worked in roles as an Electronics technician, cable installer, low voltage technician, test technician, test engineer, manufacturing engineer and design engineer.

Following his short-term goal of graduating from John Hopkins with his master’s in space systems engineering, Booth said he would like to return to the south, specifically in Florida and work and retire somewhere along the space coast.

He advises anyone interested in working for NASA to not let the math scare them.

“The industry really needs engineers with the skill sets taught in the programs at ENMU,” he said.

Booth went on to say that the ENMU courses in circuit analysis, computer architecture, programming in assembly, C, C++, embedded systems and sequential circuits were invaluable to his education.

With his dream now fulfilled, Booth looks forward to traveling to new places with his growing family, which includes a granddaughter and grandson on the way.
