Roma Avery Cumbie, age 89, passed away in Vada, Georgia, early on Friday, February 11, 2022, surrounded by her family. Out of an abundance of love and caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic the family has decided to hold a private graveside service. Mrs. Cumbie will be interred beside her husband in New Home Freewill Baptist Church #2 Cemetery.  Pastor Jimmy Hooks and Brother S. C. Newberry will officiate.

Roma was born in Bainbridge, Georgia, to Eddie Daniel Avery and Edie Mae Norris Avery.  She graduated from Mt. Pleasant School where she excelled on their basketball team.  Roma married Durward Cumbie.  She and Durward made their home and raised their daughters together until his passing in December of 1975.  She enjoyed working on Wordfind puzzles.  Roma was a member of New Home Freewill Baptist Church #2.   She was described as sweet by those who knew her and loving by her family.  Roma Cumbie will be missed.

Roma Cumbie is survived by her children Cheryll Brinkley (Cyrus) of Whigham, Georgia, and Debra Foister of Vada, Georgia; sister, Laverne Wilson of Climax, Georgia; grandchildren, Heather Shiver (Cedric) of Vada, Garrett Foister of Vada, and Dana Brinkley of Whigham; great grandchildren, Savannah Wilcox (Coleman), Christian Shiver, Bonnie Grace Shiver, and Ralee Deann Shiver; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 7 siblings, and son-in-law, Randall Foister.
