The Bainbridge Country Club was buzzing with activity and golf carts this past Saturday as the Salvation Army’s fourth annual Grinch Golf kicked off. According to Merreann McDonald, this year was the best yet, with the limit of 60 golfers being reached, and some potential competitors having to be turned away.

“That was the limit, because there were no other available golf carts,” she said. “That is awesome, because that is not a problem we have had before.”

While money could still be donated to the red kettle present at the golf course, this year the Salvation Army requested participants use their money to help purchase some of the more expensive items on the Angel Tree wish lists.

“Typically they’ve done a financial donation and canned goods,” McDonald said. “But, it’s easier for us to buy the canned goods we specifically need, than to just have a hodgepodge, so we asked this year if they would sponsor some of the big ticket toy items we have a hard time getting.”

Ultimately, ten hover boards and three bicycles were purchased.

Sam Surratt, Cason Priest and Carter Skipper were the winning team, with a net score of 57.50. Each member won $100 in Country Club Golf Pro Shop credit.

“This is always one of the highlights of the golf year at the Bainbridge Country Club. It is nice to get a group together to enjoy some laughs and a good time all for a great cause,” said Robert McRae, a member and the outgoing president of the Country Club’s Golf Committee. “We were trilled to have a full field for Grinch Golf this year. We can’t wait to do it again next year, so mark your calendars to call the shop next November to secure your spot!”

“We just are incredibly grateful for the support of the Bainbridge Country Club, and helping us to meet the needs of these children in our community,” McDonald said. “We are thrilled with the turnout that we had, the best we’ve had in the four years, and we’re just looking forward to next year being bigger and better.”
