Helen James Turner entered into Heaven on November 16, 2021, at Miona Geriatric and Dementia Center in Ideal, Georgia.  Services were held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ideal Baptist Church with the Rev. Sidney Clay, the Rev. Rickey Rushing and Mr. Jason Tarrer officiating.  Visitation was held Friday, November 19, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm. at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Ellaville, Georgia.  Serving as pall bearers were Joey Turner, Kyle Turner, Scotty Tarrer, Ken Fowler, Rodney Fowler, and Dr. Brock Simmons.  Mrs. Patsy Newberry and Mr. Bruce Fisher served as musicians.

“Miss” Helen, as she was affectionately known, was born to her parents, Lester B. James and Rosa Mae Bray James Bowling, at their home in Ideal, Georgia, on September 2, 1935.  Helen was a 1953 graduate of Oglethorpe High School where she was an honor graduate and was voted “Most Dependable” in her class. She attended the Georgia Business School in Macon before marrying Larry Lee Turner, Sr. on December 24, 1954.  She was the secretary to the late Honorable Judge William F. Blanks before the birth of her first child.  She was a stay at home mother until her children reached school age. She then became the secretary at Southland Academy’s Montezuma branch where she worked for 32 years before retiring.  She was a faithful member of the Ideal Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. Helen also sang in the choir and served as the church pianist for many years.

She is survived by her children Lee and Cathy Turner of Ellaville and Lauren Turner of Bainbridge; her grandchildren Alicia Turner of Columbus and Liana Turner of Richmond Hill; and her great-grandchild, Chandler Catherine Enfinger of Richmond Hill. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Tanya Rogers of Macon, John and Kay Turner, Charlene Turner, and Dennis Turner, all of Ideal. Also surviving her are her grand nieces and nephews Amanda and JJ Pankey of Valdosta, Joey and Mary Margaret Turner of Marietta, Carrie and Robbie Jordan of Oglethorpe, Katie Turner of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Kyle Turner of Americus; and her great-grand nieces and nephews John Walker Pankey, Mason, Peyton, and Lydia Turner, Avery and Alivia Turner, and Hunter and Carlee Jordan, as well as many cousins and her special friend, Jeanette Warren.

“Miss” Helen was preceded in death by her parents Rosa Mae Bray James Bowling and Lester B. James, her husband Larry Lee Turner, Sr., her son Leslie Kent Turner, her step-father Thomas Curtis Bowling, her sister Anne James Collins, her special friend Donald Allen Massey, her niece Janet Denise Collins and her nephews Joe Lynn Turner, Sr., Dudley Carroll Turner, and Stephen Gregg Collins.
