Pick Your Absurdity

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It felt good and almost a return to normalcy. I had filled up my car with gasoline and it had cost less than twenty dollars. I wanted to jump for joy and shout “Hallelujah,” but came back to earth when I realized that it had only taken four gallons!

Can you appreciate that it has not been a complete year since our great nation was energy independent? Last year, in this very month of November, the state average of a gallon of gasoline was $1.95 and decreasing. Today, it’s $3.24 and rising.

It seems like only yesterday that the USA was producing more than it could use and we were, in fact, exporting energy. Now, we are begging those great friends of ours, OPEC and Russia, to send us more even though we have plenty of energy in own land. That is absurd.
One of the definitions of the absurdity is ridiculous. To me, picking my favorite absurdity is not as easy as it might seem. There are so many.

How about this absurdity? It is reported and confirmed that the White House is “comfortable” with this; that people who entered our nation illegally, depending upon their circumstances, could be in line for receiving a check for $450,000. I wonder what ridiculous amount of “do-re-mi” they might get if they enter legally?

Here is another head scratcher. If you’re wondering where all the hundreds of thousands coming across our southern border are going, I’m with you. I have heard that we are chartering airplanes to carry thousands of mostly young illegals into the heartland of our nation.

And, if that is not ridiculous enough, we are sending them on their journeys in the middle of the night, under the cover of darkness. Plus, we are not even telling the officials of those cities and states that we are unloading unexpected illegals into their school systems and healthcare facilities. How does that work with a local economy?

Here’s another. According to the New York Post in an article from last month, approximately $100 million dollars of southern border materials that have already been “bought and paid for” by taxpayers have been rusting in the Texas desert because the contracts for building the much-needed wall have been either put on hold or canceled.

Meanwhile, President Biden is building a wall. Where? Around his Delaware beach house and guess who’s paying for it? The Department of Homeland Security at a cost of almost $457,000. That’s the same department that is responsible for the wall on our overrun southern border. Does anyone ask, “Priorities?”

I’m no Nobel Prize winning economist; I’ve just learned how to balance my checking account in the last few months. I don’t have to be an economist to understand that hamburger meat has almost doubled in price. Most experts lay the rise in prices, also known as inflation, at the feet of government stimulation and the whirring of the printing presses spewing out those green dollars.

Understandably, much of the spending occurred to combat the recent coronavirus pandemic. It may have kept the wolves away from many a door but, at some point, there is reached a negative result. Hence inflation.

Thankfully, the geniuses who are running our government have found creative ways to inject trillions of dollars into our economy, yet it costs nothing. Absurd? Of course, but that doesn’t stop our Congress or Executive Branch from telling us that the new Build Back Better plan will, not only “juice” the economy with another $4 Trillion dollars, it will defeat inflation!

My go-to phrase often is that I didn’t just fall off the turnip truck. I may not know as much as the government, but I know absurdity when I see it!
