Glenda Lea Messer was born May 10, 1947, in Tallahassee, Fla., the daughter of Albert & Marilyn Rowe Messer. She was a graduate of Leon High School and lived her entire life in North Florida and South Georgia. Glenda worked as hairdresser in Bainbridge for a number of years and later retired from Florida State University after working 25+ years with contracts and grants. She was Baptist by faith.

Glenda loved the Lord. She had a giving spirit and responded to nudges to help those in need. She looked for the good in others and accepted them unconditionally. Glenda enjoyed a good time and could be counted on to be the jokester and cut up in the crowd.  She was a fantastic cook, especially if a baked good was on the menu, and spent countless hours working in her yard while the cake was in the oven. Glenda believed “blood is thicker than water” and instilled the value of family with those she held dear.

Survivors include her mother, Marilyn Rowe Sellers; her children, Elizabeth “Lisa” Godwin of Bainbridge, Ga., and Emmett Dollar, Jr. of Lake Seminole; her grandchildren, Jessica & Mike, Christina, Madison and Emma; her great-grandchildren, Aiden, Corbyn, Harper, Michael, Aria, Ella Grace, Alisa and Rae Lynn; and her siblings, Diane Lawson of Tallahassee, Fla., and Barbi (Curt) VanLandingham of Whigham, Ga.; and a host of extended family. Glenda was preceded in death by her father and her brother, Al Messer.
