Richard Edward “Dick” Hachey, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at his home in Bainbridge, Ga.

The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Victor Manuel Canela-Ochoa, S.T. officiating. Visitation will be held at Bryant Funeral Home on Friday at 6:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

Dick was born in Waterville, Maine, on October 3, 1930, to the late William and Georgiana (Roberge) Hachey. Dick grew up in Maine amongst a family and in a region rich in French-Canadian heritage. As a child, he learned to speak French, and his children and grandchildren fondly remember him impressing them upon occasion with his use of a French phrase or two.

Dick was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during the Korean War. After serving his country, Dick married Camilla Begin in 1954, a marriage that truly withstood the test of time. For their 50th wedding anniversary in 2004, the couple traveled to Savannah where they renewed their wedding vows during a special ceremony held at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist.

Following in the footsteps of his father who produced woolen cloth at the Wyandotte Woolen Mill, Dick began working at C.F. Hathaway Company, a shirt manufacturer in Waterville, Maine. This position set the stage for a long career in the garment manufacturing industry. Seeking greater career opportunities, Dick moved his growing family from Maine to Georgia. Over time, he and the family would make many such moves as he served as plant manager for numerous clothing manufacturers throughout the Southeastern United States, including Jack Winter, Inc. in Arkansas and Marlene Industries in Kentucky. Dick managed clothing plants in Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Arkansas, South Carolina and Mississippi before finally landing in Bainbridge in 1989 to manage the Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing plant. When the plant shuttered its doors, Dick and Camilla decided to retire and remain in the community that they had come to love.

Dick was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for more than 30 years. During his early retirement, Dick, an avid golfer who once made a hole in one, enjoyed golfing at The Bainbridge Country Club, and he and Camilla took several ocean cruises. He attended many Florida State football games in Tallahassee, and often he could be found walking along the white sandy beaches of Destin enjoying a fiery sunset. He also took great pride in his residence and kept his home and yard in pristine condition for as long as he was physically able.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, William and Georgiana Hachey, and his beloved daughter, Judith Adams. Dick is survived by Camilla (Begin) Hachey, his wife of 67 years; four sons, Stephen of Lafayette, La., Brian (Judy) of Jamestown, Ky., James (Judy) of Mesquite, Texas, and Gregory (Tammy) of Glen Allen, Va.; two brothers, Reginald Haché of St. Augustine, Fla., and Donald Hachey of Petersham, Mass.; one sister, Marlene Haché of Raymond, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Michel Daly and Elizabeth Landry, both of Lafayette, La., Danielle Hachey of Lexington, Ky., Brooke Bennett of Columbia, Ky., Will Adams of Marietta, Ga., Emily Hachey and Alexis Hachey, both of Glen Allen, Va. Seven great grandchildren also survive.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Joseph Catholic Church in memory of Richard Hachey.
