Onys Varner Rentz, 68, of Eldorendo, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Humphries officiating.  Interment will follow at Eldorendo Baptist Church Cemetery with Tom Conger, Mike Conger, Jim Conger, Jed Varner, Abe Varner, Ben Davis, Kevin Golden, Stuart Kelley, Brad Kelley, and Chris Kelley serving as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021, at 3021 N. Eldorendo Road. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.bryantfuneralga.com. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 155, Bainbridge, Ga. 39818. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, those attending are asked to wear protective masks and distance.

Onys Willis Varner was born October 22, 1952, in Columbus, Georgia, the daughter of Edwin Surles and Margaret Conger Varner. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Middle Georgia College, and Georgia Southwestern College.  She taught a number of years in the Decatur County, Georgia, school system and was active in the managing her family’s farm.

Onys was a quiet disciple. She was kind and gentle with a sweet spirit that made everyone she met feel comfortable. She was the calm in the storm and desired for everyone to “just get along”. Onys was always willing to give and serve and did so throughout her life to her church, family, and community.

Survivors include her husband, Kim D. Rentz; her daughters, Maggie Rentz Smith and her husband Greg, of Climax, Georgia, and Mary Elizabeth Rentz Swain and her husband J.J., of Tallahassee, Florida; her brothers, Fields W. Varner and his wife Kathy, of Bainbridge, Georgia, and Edwin S. Varner, Jr. and his wife Suzy of Kathleen, Georgia; her grandchildren, Owen Rentz Smith, George Wiley Smith, Grayson Dakota Swain, Monroe Isabella Swain, Dawson Lee Swain, Jacob Tucker Shiver, and Rentz Scott Swain. Onys was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Abraham Conger Varner.

The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Sally Henry, Debra Donalson, and Kindred Hospice, whose compassionate care and service is greatly appreciated.
