Mr. Wendell Custer Long, age 69, of Newton, Georgia, passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, at his home in Baker County.  Services for Mr. Long will be held at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 25, at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Bainbridge, Georgia.  Rev. Newton Cranford will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 4:00.  The service will conclude at the chapel.

Due to ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending are asked to wear protective masks and social distance in accordance with the State of Georgia guidelines.

Wendell Custer Long was born February 22, 1952, in Bainbridge, Georgia.  His parents, William Custer Long and Margaret Mae Knight Long, have preceded him in death.  Wendell married the love of his life, Nita Sue Bryant Long.  They married February 7, 1971, sharing their lives and raising their family together for 50 years.  Wendell loved anything to do with semi-trucks.  He worked hard and enjoyed logging.  He owned Long Trucking.  Wendell was a kind and generous man who would give you the shirt off his back.   His heart was his family, especially his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed a good cigar!  Wendell Long will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Wendell Custer Long is survived by his wife, Nita Sue Bryant Long; his family, Trenton Long (Shannon) and children, Hannah, Camryn, Jacob, and Colby, Danita Ornelas (Daniel) and children, Austin, Carrie, Sara, and Megan, Wendell Long (Shannon) and children, Brianna, Alyssa, and Madison, and Jennifer Long and children, Aiden and Alijah.  His oldest son, Bryant, preceded him in death and leaves his wife, Sherry and children, Derrick, Wesley, and Joshua.  Wendell has 6 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, and 7 sisters.  He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amber Long.
