On August 4, Bryan Hight Veterinary Hospital had their first Teacher’s Pet Food Drive for Bainbridge Humane Society. The drive was from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and while food was the primary donation request, toys, dog beds and other pet-related items were accepted. WALB was present at the event, with some members volunteering to help.

“We try to do spays and neuters for them, along with all the other vet’s offices here in town,” hospital manager Pasilie Lee said in regards to the hospital’s aid to the Humane Society, “We just know they are in desperate need of donations and help.” She attributed their need to a mix of underfunding and being overwhelmed with animals. While Bryan Hight did not do a precise count of donations received, they were enough to fill the back of a Chevy truck. “We teach our staff about how important it is to give back to the community. One person can make a difference, no matter how big or small that difference is,” Lee said.

While the drive has officially ended, if anyone still wishes to make donations, they will gladly be accepted; according to Lee, dry food is preferred for dogs, and wet food for cats. Two more drives are also planned for this year. “We’re gonna do this again,” Lee said. “We’re going to do it again in the fall. We hope we have a bigger turn-out and can fill two trucks, that’s our goal, and we’re also going to do it again at Christmas time… We just want to make sure that everybody here in the community can pitch in and give back.”
