The Bainbridge-Decatur County Recreation Authority met Thursday afternoon for a board meeting, with the 2022 budget as the main discussion. The Authority’s total proposed revenue for this year is $1,656,000, which is $386,000 more than last year; the total proposed expenditures are $1,644,480, which is $458,250 more than the previous year; and the total proposed revenue over expenditures are $11,520.

Among the expenditures and proposals suggested during the meeting were both increased adult and youth programs this summer. These include expanding the co-ed adult softball team to include a men’s league, as well as adding adult kickball and wiffle ball teams. Increased youth programs were discussed as well.

“A few things we’re looking at is a youth track and field program and a youth cross-country program, and then possibly youth volleyball,” executive director Joel Holmes told the Post Searchlight.

In addition to the new programs, $60,000 has been set aside for two new maintenance pick-up trucks. The Recreation Authority also has a new position, a marketing and special events supervisor. The position is currently filled by an intern, and will be available at the end of the summer.

Holmes also wanted to alert people to the fact that the authority now has a new official Facebook page, due to technical difficulties with their former one, as well as an official Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter.
