Bennie Frank Brookins, 96, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Eldorendo Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Burrell officiating. Interment will be at Eldorendo Baptist Church Cemetery with members of Orion Lodge No. 8 F&AM serving as active pallbearers.

Bennie Frank Brookins was born May 19, 1925 in Dothan, Ala., the son of Jim and Mae Smith Brookins. He was a graduate of Jordan Vocational High School, Class of 1944 in Columbus, Ga. Bennie proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and later in the Georgia National Guard. After retiring from Southern Bell as a PBXIR repairman, he opened Bainbridge Communications and continued to serve the customers he had come to know and love. Bennie was a faithful member and deacon at Eldorendo Baptist Church, past commander of both the VFW Post 4904 and American Legion, and a member of Orion Lodge No. 8 F& AM earning a 70 year apron.

Bennie was recently quoted saying, “I got a story to tell” and boy did he tell it. He was a living testimony of faith, perseverance and service to others. He worked tirelessly for the Shriners fundraising, serving as a parade clown, and assisting families on their journey with Shriners Hospitals for Children for decades. Bennie was a volunteer supervisor for Community Thanksgiving and Hurricane Michael cleanup. He said, “There’s plenty of people that needs help every day. Just look around you. You can always see someone who needs help.”

Bennie often spoke of his beloved Juanita, affectionately known as “Wife”, as more than his life partner but his partner for life. They shared trials and triumphs as members of the Greatest Generation and dedicated themselves to serving others through church, volunteering with hospice, and filling gaps unbeknownst to others. Bennie treasured the words of Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Juanita Goff Brookins; his daughter, Lynn Brookins Powell; several nieces and nephews; and special friends he considered family. In addition to his parents, Bennie was preceded in death by his son, Bennie Frank “Ben” Brookins, Jr.; and his siblings, Frank Brookins, Davis Brookins, Hazel Satterfield, and Mabel Anthony.
