Band students end year with concert, award ceremony

Wednesday evening the Bainbridge High School Symphonic, Jazz and Concert Bands held their spring concert and students were presented with awards for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

Danceline and Colorguard were recognized first, with Kailyn Bennett winning Outstanding Danceline member and Alyvia James winning Outstanding Colorguard member.

Members from each grade level in the band were then recognized.

Anastasia Davis, Nourah Holt, Ava Prouse and Brooklyn Wade were named Outstanding Freshman, while Mauro Padron, Jaqavious Wallace, Thomas Spooner, Brennyn Timmons were named Outstanding Sophomores.

Outstanding Juniors consisted of Jakob Adams, Jadia Medina and Hadleigh Klock.

Band Director James Sewell then presented various awards students had received throughout the year.

Michael Jackson was awarded the National School Marching Band Award.

Bethany Carnes, Shelby Copeland, Shelbie Stevens and John Sykes were all awarded the Instrumentalist Magazine Musicianship Award, before Bret Pope, Zack Shae, Amaya Thompson and Kinsey Ward received the Instrumentalist Magazine Merit Award.

Linda Ambrocio, Hannah Copeland, Ashley McClanahan and Lucas Reynolds were all named Outstanding Concert Band Members, while Sarah Grace Ferrell received the Optimism Award.

Senior Kaitlin Floyd was presented with the Leonard Bernstein Award and John Ingram received the Quincy Jones Award.

Zyneal Jenkins was the recipient of the 2021 Director’s Award and Paige Overman won the Patrick Gilmore Award.

Colby Weathersby then received the Woody Herman Award, while Josh Robinson won the Louis Armstrong Award.

Seth Allen and Colby Whitaker were both recipients of the John M. Long Award.

Brooklyn Willis and Carter Worthington proudly received the John Phillip Sousa Award.

Floyd and Willis also shared a moment in the spotlight for their scholarships received earlier in the year.

Floyd was awarded the Emory Edwin and Kathleen Ivey Johnson Music Scholarship, while Willis was awarded the PW Scholarship.

Patron of the Arts, Rick Ragan won the Joe Crine Award, named after The Post- Searchlight’s own Sports Editor, who proudly supported the Bearcat Band in all their endeavors.

Other patrons, including Jamey and Tracey Whitaker received the Appreciation Award, while Tommy Rentz was awarded the Jean Alderman Award.

Following the final award, the ceremony concluded.
