Decatur County 4-H hosted the 4-H Shotgun District Qualification Match on Sunday, April 11, 2021. Eighty-one 4-H’ers from Seminole, Grady, Early, Echols and Decatur counties participated in the prerequisite shooting bout to determine eligibility for the 4-H State Target Challenge Weekend to be held at Rock Eagle 4-H Center May 7-8, 2021. Qualification requirements for Junior members (seventh and eighth grade) include breaking 16 out of 25 clays and Senior members (high school) hitting 20 of the 25 targets.

Decatur County 4-H 2020-2021 Junior and Senior Decatur County 4-H team members are Lance Adams, Aidan Angle, Jaiden Belcher, Cameron Bennett, Langston Bennett, Nate Cannon, Shelby Copeland, Parker Cox, Jackson Davis, Holten Dollar, Blake Fagan, Caden Godwin, Tyler Godwin, Grayson Griffin, Samuel Haire, Marshall Harper, Landon Harrell, Evan Hutto, Hayden Martin, Kelan Newsome, Brannon Parker, Weston Powell, Logan Rich, Michael Rich, Logan Roman, Gage Sellars, Kaden Smith and Christopher Staples.

Decatur County 4-H shotgun members were very successful with 24 members qualifying for the state match. The Junior team of Marshall Harper, Holten Dollar, Kelan Newsome, Landon Harrell and Nate Cannon received 1st place awards with the 3rd place Junior team going to Parker Cox, Jaiden Belcher, Evan Hutto, Tyler Godwin and Aiden Angle. First place awards were also won by the Senior team of Grayson Griffin, Michael Rich, Logan Rich, Weston Powell and Jackson Davis. Additionally, Decatur County 4-H members Hayden Martin, Blake Fagan, Brannon Parker, Cameron Bennett and Lance Adams made up the 3rd place Senior team. Brannon Parker was the High Senior Individual by shooting a perfect 25, then winning the doubles competition by hitting 8 out of 10 targets.

Team members have been practicing diligently each week since February under the guidance of dedicated volunteer coaches. Coaches for the Decatur County 4-H Shotgun Team are Jule Powell, Tim Cochran, Todd Martin, Jeff Rich, Tony Cox and Lee Godwin.
