The Decatur Board of Education met for their monthly meeting Thursday afternoon. Among the topics on the agenda was a one-time pay supplement, a $1,000 bonus for all full-time educators.

“The governor, the Department of Education and Bright from the Start, who funds pre-K, used part of their CARES money to do this one-time $1,000 payment to educators,” Superintendent Tim Cochran said. There are certain restrictions and criteria for this bonus, namely if an educator is not full-time, they will get a percentage of the payment.

“So if a 49% employee is employed, they get 49% of the $1,000 bonus, so they get $490,” Cochran clarified. “If they are an employee with us, they will get a bonus.”

The total amount allotted to the district by the agencies is $679,137, but to cover additional school personnel and benefits not included in the criteria, the total is $718,000.
