During Tuesday morning’s County Commissioner meeting, the Board of Commissioners presented the family of the late Captain Justin Bedwell with a plaque in honor of his service.

The title at the top of the plaque described it as “A Resolution of the Board of Commissioners of Decatur County, Georgia Recognizing and Honoring the Life and Legacy of Captain Justin Williams Bedwell.”

The resolution acknowledged Bedwell’s family, his death in the line of duty, as well as his legacy: “… that when it comes to the life and legacy of Captain Justin Williams Bedwell it can be said that the works that he did, and the life that he lived, will eternally speak for him and endear him to the hearts and minds of others… Now therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Commissioners of Decatur County, Georgia, join with others in recognizing the life and legacy of Captain Justin Williams Bedwell and in expressing our deep sympathy to Katherine, Maddie and Georgia. We wish you comfort in the days ahead.”

In addition to the family of Captain Bedwell, Marquail Jamal Jones, Jr. was also presented with a resolution by the commissioners, “A Resolution of the Board of Commissioners of Decatur County, Georgia Recognizing the Actions of Marquail Jamal Jones, Jr. Observed During the Homecoming of Captain Justin Bedwell on March 2, 2021.”

“Marquail and Captain Bedwell had a unique relationship, because Captain Bedwell took the time to get to know him… and led this young man in the right direction when he needed help,” Chairman Pete Stephens said. “What better legacy can a man leave behind?”

Members of law enforcement were also in attendance at the presentation.
