Lady Cats Varsity Soccer split two Region Contests

The Bainbridge Varsity girls soccer team hosted a pair of Region contests last week defeating the Monroe High School Lady Tornadoes 10-0, while losing a heartbreaker 2-1 to Thomas County Central in Overtime at Centennial Field.

On Tuesday The Lady Cats scored four first half goals followed by six in the second half to breeze by Monroe 10-0 on Senior night.

Just three minutes into the contest Bainbridge Junior Midfielder Nathaly Rodriguez intercepted a Monroe goal kick and scored from twelve yards away to give the Lady Cats a 1-0 lead.

In the 10th minute Senior Midfielder Britney Lopez received a pass from Rodriguez and dribbled into the Monroe Penalty area and scored from 14 yards away to make the score 2-0.

Bainbridge Junior midfielder Anna Kate Littleton made the score 3-0, in the 29th minute, as she followed up a crossing pass by Lady Cat Junior midfielder Evelyn Mach, and finished with a shot from 3 yards away.

The Lady Cats scored their fourth goal in the 36th minute of the first half, as Junior Defender Maloree Inlow finished a shot for a goal from 16 yards away.

On the Play Bainbridge Senior midfielder Jennifer Pascual had sent a free kick into the Monroe penalty area that deflected off of several players before being intercepted by Inlow.

In the 46th minute Junior midfielder Aubrey Hill crossed a shot for a score from six yards after receiving a pass from Rodriguez to elevate the score at 5-0.

Rodriguez scored again in the 57th minute after receiving a pass from Freshman Midfielder Nicole Tyre, scoring from eleven yards out, giving Bainbridge a comfortable 6-0 lead.

Tyre scored in the 59th minute, for Bainbridge’s seventh goal, on a beautiful twenty-five 25 yard shot from outside of the penalty area, set up on a pass from Mach.

In the 65th minute Senior Lady Cat Emma Briggs intercepted a Monroe pass and laid a pass off to Pascual, who scored from fourteen yards out.

The final two Bainbridge goals came in the 66th and 68th minute as Briggs scored from 5 yards out, being assisted by Pascual, followed by Senior Midfielder Isabella Marquez who intercepted a pass and scored from the top of the penalty area.

Senior goalkeepers Ashanta Peterson (43 min.) and Brooke Worsley (25 min.) preseved the shutout for the Lady Cats.

On Thursday Bainbridge gave an inspired effort, but in the waning minutes of overtime Thomas County Central was able to score to give Bainbridge a heartbreaking 2-1 loss.

Thomas County took a 1-0 first half lead, in the 26th minute, as a Lady Yellow Jacket forward got loose on a breakaway and scored from 14 yards out.

Bainbridge then tied the score in the 48th minute as Junior Forward Nathaly Rodrigues flicked a heading shot into the goal. On the play Junior Midfielder Evelyn Mach sent a corner kick to the six yard box, where Rodriguez calmly headed the ball to the near post just past a Yellow Jacket defender for the score.

Despite both teams creating chances, late in the contest, neither could get a clean look and the game went into overtime.

In the second overtime with less than a minute to play Bainbridge lofted a goal kick into the wind thirty five yards from the goal.

An alert Thomas County Midfielder seized the opportunity and headed the ball back toward the Bainbridge end.

As the ball came down, it took a high bounce and just went over the Bainbridge goalkeepers hands, who was making a play towards it , The wind aided ball then rolled across the line for the winning goal.

Bainbridge Senior Goalkeeper Ashanta Peterson is to be commended, along with her teamates, as she had 6 saves in the loss and intercepted several Yellow Jacket chances with and causing multiple misses.

Playing a good defensive game were Senior Emma Briggs, Jennifer Pascual, Britney Lopez, Juniors Abi Surratt, Maloree Inlow, Sophomores Kay Lee Lopez, Brennyn Timmons , and Freshman Brenna Conley.
Those serving up the midfield play were Senior Sarah Victor, Juniors Mach, Rodriguez, Aubrey Hill, Anna Kate Littleton and freshman Nicole Tyre and Elvira Hernandez.

Bainbridge is now 6-4 overall and 5-2 in region play.
