The Decatur County Artists’ Guild will feature member India Jernigan, a resident of Donalsonville, as the April Artist of the Month. Representations of her work will be displayed in the Firehouse Arts Gallery for the whole month.

Mrs. Jernigan was born in Blakely, Ga., and grew up in Decatur, Ga. After her marriage to Jim Jernigan she moved to Donalsonville, where they make their home.

Since she was a child she has practiced numerous types of art and she is experienced in pencil drawings, charcoals, pastels, watercolor and acrylics. Now, she has expressed painting in oils as her favorite medium and her recent works reflect that preference.

Her subjects are greatly inspired by the pursuit of capturing landscapes, and she says the beauty of God’s world is what motivates her paintbrush to capture the landscapes around her.

As she has a strong interest in local history, she also often paints the old buildings and businesses around Seminole County and the area.

She says she held dear the weekly painting sessions held with her cousin before the pandemic, and looks forward to resuming contact with her artist friends.

India is an active member of the Artists’ Guild and has frequently displayed her works in the local art exhibits.
