Signed into law this month, the American Rescue Plan is a $1.9 trillion stimulus bill intended to provide economic relief in the wake of the Covid pandemic. Funds will be distributed to states (capitals), metro cities, towns/cities, and counties. At the state/capital level, Georgia is set to receive $0.262 billion, while Decatur County is set to receive $5.12 million. Attapulgus is set to receive $0.13 million, Bainbridge is set to receive $3.81 million, Brinson to receive $0.06 million, and Climax is to receive $0.08 million.

Other aspects of the bill include: providing $1.25 billion to support live venues such as museums and theaters; $10 billion in financing programs for state and local small businesses; providing $15 billion in grants to help small businesses; adding $7.25 billion to the Paycheck Protection Program to aide businesses and non-profits that have been excluded; and providing $28 billion to support small restaurants, bars, etc.

The Decatur County Commissioners office declined to comment on specifics of what the funding will be spent on at this time. City manager Chris Hobby was unavailable for comment. The Post Searchlight will provide updates as more details are made available.
