Irma Cornelia Johnson was born April 6, 1932 in Faceville, Ga., the daughter of Morgan and Susie Bell Howell Johnson. She was a graduate of Faceville High School. Irma married William Gordon Barber and they made their home in Chattahoochee. They retired to the family farm in Faceville. She was a member of Faceville Baptist Church.

“Love you more” was “Miss” Irma’s mantra. She made sure each person felt loved the most when she was around. Animals of all sorts felt right at home with her. (Ask any bird in a fifty-mile radius who had the best feeders.) “Miss” Irma enjoyed playing the piano, singing, cooking & eating. She would “put away” her sweets, especially chocolate, so she wouldn’t find herself in a quandary with her beloved family. “Miss” Irma felt like Fridays were designated for fish frys; no special occasion needed because it was Friday.

Survivors include her children, Mark Barber, Glennie Barber Cox (Michael), Vera Barber & Phillip Pope, all of Faceville, and Janie Barber Kelley (Al) of Bainbridge; her sister-in-law, Annie Mae Rolt; her grandchildren, Emily & Raymond, Joseph & Emily, Rosemary & Daryle, Rebekah & Jay, Jared & Kristin, Joshua & Laura, Micah & Trevor, Jenna, and Will & Hope; her fifteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Irma was preceded in death by her husband, William Gordon Barber; her daughter, Sharon Barber Ogburn; her brothers, Wayne Johnson, Leland Johnson and Alvin “Turkey” Johnson; and her canine sidekick, Elvis.

The Barber Family would like to extend their gratitude to Joanna, Devin and others at Kindred Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
