Bearcat Baseball brings home back-to-back wins over weekend

The Bainbridge Bearcats Baseball Team took a road trip this weekend, where they brought home two victories against Blountstown 8-4 and Port St. Joe 3-0.

The Bearcats first faced Blountstown, where they scored a run in the first inning.

Will Beckham was hit by a pitch, leaving Nolan Barr to run for him. Colton Harrell then stepped up to the plate, hitting a line drive double to left field, scoring Barr and giving the Bearcats the first run of on the scoreboard.

Blountstown came to the plate ready to play.

C. Ryals hit a triple on the first at bat, before Trace Horne singled on a ground ball, allowing for Ryals to score.

With the score tied, both teams were fierce and neither allowed a run in the second inning.

The third inning allowed the Bearcats to pull ahead.

Quayde Hawkins singled on a ground ball. Beckham then doubled on a fly ball to right field.

Jackson McCullough stepped up to the plate, singling on a hard ground ball and bringing home Hawkins and Beckham.

The Bearcats continued to pull ahead in the top of the fourth, when they scored three runs.

Jase Godwin was walked during the first play of the fourth inning. Josh Beachem then singled on a ground ball, allowing Godwin to advance to second base.

Blountstown’s pitcher then walked Michael Conder.

Hawkins returned to the plate, where he singled on a ground ball, allowing Godwin and Beachem to score.

With one out on the board, Colton Harrell singled on a line drive, bringing home Conder. The last run of the fourth inning was scored by Hawkins, when Blountstown’s left fielder made an error. Headed into the fifth inning, the Bearcats led 7-1.

The fifth inning was scoreless, but as Blountstown entered the bottom of the sixth they looked to make a comeback.

The team scored three runs, before Bainbridge ended the game in the top of the seventh with one final run.
Beachem hit a ground ball single, before Chase Parker was walked. Griffin Perkins then hit a hard ground ball single. With bases loaded, Harrell was walked, allowing Beachem to score the final run of the game.

McCullough pitched the Bearcats to victory, surrendering only one run on three hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Jordan Pride took the loss for Blountstown.

With one win under their belt, the team then headed to Port St. Joe, where they had a complete game shutout against the Sharks.

The Bearcats scored two runs in the second inning.

McCullough singled on a line drive to left field, before Dewey Brock doubled on a line drive to left field.

McCullough then scored on an error by Port St. Joe’s third baseman, while Brock’s courtesy runner Beachem scored on a wild pitch.

Neither team scored again until the top of the seventh inning, when Bainbridge got its final run.

Brock singled on a pop fly, before Connor Poitevint singled on a line drive to right field, allowing for Brock to score.

The Bearcats will hit the road again Friday in a double header against Monroe High School.
