Mr. Willis D. Dodson, age 84, of Cairo, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 13, 2021 in Thomasville, Georgia.  Services for Mr. Dodson were held at 11 a.m., Monday, February 15, at Climax Baptist Church in Climax, Georgia.  The Rev. Jim Weaver and Rev. Steve Poppell officiated. The service concluded at the church.  Walter Maxwell, Jamie Bishop, Jacky Dodson, Jerry Mills, and Jimmy Green served as pallbearers.  Mr. Jimmy Maxwell served as an honorary pallbearer.  Willis was interred in Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo, Georgia.  The family received friends one hour before the service, beginning at 10.

In accordance with State of Georgia guidelines concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending were asked to maintain the recommended safe social distancing and to wear protective masks.

Willis D. Dodson was born March 12, 1936 in Decatur County, Georgia.  His parents, Carson Truell Dodson and Virgieleen Mills Dodson, have preceded him in death.  April 21, 1968, he married the love of his life, Alice Shores Dodson.  He and Alice have been together 53 years.  Willis was a barber.  He cut hair for over 60 years.  He loved to hunt and, especially, fish.  He was a member of Woodman of the World and a member of Climax Baptist Church.  Willis was a talented woodcarver and woodworker.  Willis Dodson will be deeply missed by the family he loved so very much and his many friends.

Surviving Mr. Dodson is his wife, Alice Shores Dodson of Cairo; brother, Archie Dodson of Havana, Florida; sister, Linda Kay Griffin and husband James of Bainbridge, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Berry Dodson and wife Tracy of Cairo, William Dodson and wife Kim of Calvary, James Everett Griffin and wife, Stephanie of Alapaha, Georgia, Mary Elizabeth Weir and husband Harvey of Panama City, Florida, and Krista Carmichael and husband Lee of Panama City; numerous great nieces and nephews; and his constant companion and furry friend, Lil’ Bit.

Memorial donations may be sent in memory of Willis Dodson to the Lighthouse Children’s Home, 7771 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, Florida 32309.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Brewer, the Hospice of Southwest Georgia staff, and the staff of Rose City Health and Rehab for the care and attention they provided Willis.
