On Sunday, December 27, 2020, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a residence on Spring Creek Road in reference to a stolen vehicle & a burglary. Family members of the property owner, discovered that a Dodge Ram truck had been stolen as well as several electronic items and tools from inside the residence and garage. Investigator Vincent Edmond began to investigate this case.

On Thursday, January 21, 2021, Edmond received information that Daniel Barfield, who is a registered sex offender from Pelham, Georgia, had attempted to sell the stolen Dodge Ram truck to a Bainbridge, Ga. resident. Edmond also learned that Barfield was a former employee of the stolen truck’s owner. DCSO Investigators Edmond, Adam Mobley, and Monteze McCall then traveled to Barfield’s residence in Pelham and located several items that had been reported stolen from the residence on Spring Creek Road. Edmond made contact with Barfield by phone and advised him to come to the Pelham residence and talk to him about the found stolen items. Barfield advised that he would come but ultimately never showed up.

On Monday, January 25, 2021, Edmond learned that the stolen Dodge Ram truck was possibly located at a salvage yard in Baker County, Georgia. Edmond contacted the Baker County Sheriff’s Office and a BCSO Investigator went to the salvage yard and located the stolen Dodge Ram truck which had been sold to the salvage yard by Barfield. Later that same day, Edmond received credible information that Barfield was located at an address on Landfill Road in Pelham and that he was armed and made threats regarding not going back to prison. DCSO Investigators Edmond, Mobley, McCall, and Justin Kelly traveled to Pelham and teamed up with deputies from the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies went to the Landfill Road residence in Pelham and Barfield was able to escape from the house, through a side door, when two of the deputies entered the front of the residence. Barfield was seen running across the back yard of the residence with a shotgun in his hand as deputies chased him. Barfield ran to a house next door, dropped the gun, and attempted to hide under a porch attached to the residence. Deputies negotiated with Barfield in an attempt to get him to come out from under the porch but Barfield refused. Deputies then approached Barfield and were able to get him from under the porch but Barfield began to resist the deputies as they attempted to handcuff him. Barfield was subsequently tased by Edmond and a MCSO Deputy and was then taken into custody by. Mobley and Kelly. MCSO Deputies collected the firearm Barfield was seen running with and Barfield was charged with Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon & Obstruction by MCSO Deputies. Barfield faces charges of Burglary, Theft By Taking Motor Vehicle as well as Criminal Damage to Property and Reckless Conduct from an unrelated case that Edmond was working which also involved Barfield as the Offender.
