Bearcats beat Syrupmakers in Saturday night game

The Varsity Boys Bearcat Basketball team played an away game against Cairo on Saturday. They had the lead for most of the game, ultimately scoring an overwhelming win, 67-54.

The first quarter saw Dorrian Cooper score two lay-ups; Dylun Worlds scored a lay-up; Dialan Beard scored three lay-ups and a free throw; Amarion Ford scored two free throws; and Lathan Levens scored four lay-ups, bringing the boy’s score in the first quarter to 23.

In the second quarter, the boys had an overall score of 16 points. Cooper scored a lay-up and a free throw; AJ Grant scored a three-pointer and a free throw; Worlds scored two free throws; Beard scored three free throws; Ford scored a lay-up; and Levens scored a lay-up.

After half-time, the boys made an overall score of 16 points again. Cooper scored two lay-ups; Grant scored a three-pointer; Worlds scored a lay-up and a free throw; Beard scored a lay-up; Levens scored a lay-up; and Ashton Parris scored a lay-up.

The boys closed out the fourth quarter with Grant scoring a three-pointer and two free throws; Worlds scored a lay-up; Ford scored a free throw; Levens scored a lay-up; and Parris also scored a lay-up, bringing the total score for the fourth to 12, and their overall score to 67.

“Most of the game, we led by double digits,” Assistant Coach Kelvin Cochran said in an interview. “The boys played well, for us to not have two starters playing. The boys held the lead for most of the game.”
The Bearcats will play against Westover Friday night, hoping for another region victory.
