As a Buckeye fan, I had the distinct pleasure on New Years Day of watching the greatest football game I have ever seen. Not only did Ohio State win the Sugar Bowl, they won big and whipped one of their old adversaries, Clemson University in a 49-28 victory.

Ohio State proved once and for all that they belonged in the playoffs, in spite of all the naysayers who spread doubts to the contrary.

Justin Fields was totally with the program all the way through the game, in spite of a targeting hit that caused him severe pain in the ribs. It only seemed to make him more determined and stronger, throwing some amazing passes. Even more amazing was that they were caught in the zone by the likes of Chris Olave, Jameson Williams and Garrett Wilson. Running back Trey Sermon was hard to stop as he bulled his way through and around the Clemson defense.

I can’t say enough about the Offense of Ohio State. They came to play ball.

But what really impressed me in this game was how the Defense stepped up. They kept the pressure on Clemson’s quarterback Trevor Lawrence and his running back Travis Etienne. I don’t usually see both Buckeye offense and defense working together at the top of their games.

My whole family was tuned in and we were constantly messaging each other back and forth with cheers. It was great fun and so exciting!

Yes, there were penalties – too many senseless ones, but it may point to the excitement the players were experiencing. There were also injuries – mostly to Clemson players, except for the knockout punch to Fields.
Buckeye Coach Ryan Day was so overcome after the win he could barely speak.

Now, we look forward with anticipation and some trepidation toward the national championship game against Alabama scheduled for January 11.

Can the Buckeyes beat the Tide? If they play like they did last Friday, the chances are pretty darned good in my opinion.
