There will be music

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I celebrate Christmas best with music. Music enriches my soul and my life in so many ways.

For more years than I can remember I have sung in a church choir and always participated in Christmas Eve services, helping bring a musical spiritual experience of the season to the congregation.

This has been especially fulfilling for me with the Bainbridge First Presbyterian Church’s annual Lessons and Carols service on Christmas Eve. It has always made my Christmas Eve special and filled me with the season’s happiest spirits.

I am sad to realize that this year there will not be a Christmas Eve service of Lessons and Carols that I can attend in person. I have wondered what I can do on Christmas Eve to make that night special, lacking the music connection.

I guess I will have to fall back on a tried and true remedy of televised or recorded music enjoyed at home. I have always liked the Kings College choir programs and hope I can find them this year.
Or, I can fall back on a televised program called, Christmas in the Holy Land, a show my daughter and I watched from the couch one Christmas Eve many years ago when we both had the flu and couldn’t attend services. In our family it has become a standard jovial response to the question,” What can we do on Christmas Eve?”

Now, I have learned First Presbyterian will have a virtual presentation by a small group of choir members accompanied by musicians from Tallahassee, thanks to the efforts of Music Director Michael Inlow and organist Pamela Ellis. All I need do is get on Facebook Live at 7 p.m. to enjoy the celebration of Jesus birth.

However you plan to spend Christmas Eve this year, I pray you will find peace and the spirit of Christmas in your hearts.
