Senior Lady Cat softball player, Lexie Delbrey has dreamed of attending University of Florida since she was 8-years-old. On Wednesday afternoon, all her dreams came true when she signed a softball scholarship to play at the next level for the UF Gators.

“This has always been a big dream of Lexie’s to play for University of Florida,” BHS softball Coach Christopher Bryant said. “And, she put in the hard work to get there.”

Delbrey said she always wanted to win a national championship when she was younger, and if she attended UF that was a possibility.

“Florida will play at the biggest level each year,” Delbrey said. “They have the best facilities and I know I’m going to get the best training.”

During the course of the past two years, Delbrey received several in person offers from schools across the country, along with phone offers, but none stuck out as much as Florida’s offer.

“It’s so exciting to see her hard work pay off,” Delbrey’s mother, Laura Manley said. “It’s amazing to watch your kids get to that point in their life where they’re successful and meet one of their goals.”

Manley knows Delbrey wouldn’t have been this successful without the help of her coaches.

“The last six years here have been amazing,” she said. “The coaching staff here is phenomenal and I couldn’t ask for a better six years.”

Manley also acknowledged that alongside the coaches it was the support of everyone; it truly took a village, she said.

While Delbrey and her family may thank the coaching staff for their help in pushing her to success, the pleasure was all theirs.

“It’s a huge loss for Bainbridge,” Bryant said. “She set the tone for our program for years to come and as a coach that’s all I can ask for, to leave a great example for our younger girls to follow.”

Delbrey will now begin working out to individual trainings sent by her coach until she does team exercises following her graduation in May. She can then be found on the field in the fall, pitching and following her life-long dream.
