This Friday will see the Grace Christian Academy Cougars face off against David Emanuel Academy.

As this is the first year Grace Christian Academy has had a football team, the game will mostly be a learning experience, according to Coach Lance Godwin.

“They’re ready, but we’re taking this year to learn,” Godwin said. “We’re getting the boys acclimated to football. This game isn’t necessarily going to count against us because we’re not a region certified team yet.”

During practice, the team has been mostly focusing on defense and tackling.

“As a young team, we have to learn how to make first contact and make open field tackles,” Godwin said.

During their previous game against Vidalia Heritage, Godwin said the team did a much better job of getting in the right positions defensively, but the team still didn’t make the plays they should have.

Godwin is excited to see the progress they’ve made during this week’s game.

The Friday game will be held at David Emanuel in Stillman, Georgia and begins at 7:30.
