Investigator Elijah McCoy said DCSO responded to a call near the Decatur County/Chattahoochee line about an unrelated burglary when he first came across Garrett. While McCoy was investigating the burglary, he said he noticed a car parked in the lawn area near Cypress Pond Cove.

McCoy said he approached the vehicle and found two black males in the vehicle talking and hanging out. He ran their information through the system and found it to be Garrett, however at the time McCoy didn’t know he was missing.

He later returned to the office and heard Garrett was missing and assisted the CPD with information.
According to the CPD Chief of Police, Garrett’s death is being actively investigated with the help of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

At the time Garrett was found deceased, the other occupant of the vehicle was nowhere in sight.

If anyone has any information pertaining to Garrett’s death, they are asked to contact CPD at 850-663-4384 or Big Bend Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.
