This past Monday, September 21, a pallet of peanut butter left the John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. plant bound for Lafayette, Louisiana. The twenty-four case, 1,600 pound shipment will be used to help Louisiana residents and businesses recover from the devastation of hurricane Laura, one of the strongest storms ever to hit Louisiana.

This load of peanut butter is being delivered to the regional warehouse for the Southern Baptist and Louisiana Baptist Disaster Relief efforts. Upon arrival, the peanut butter will be used in “Mudout Buckets” for a quick source of protein. Those buckets contain supplies to help homeowners, business owners, and relief works begin cleaning out their damaged and often flooded homes and businesses.

“We are so appreciative of Sanfilippo and their Plant Manager Mr. Corbitt Barber for being tremendous community partners, and for reaching beyond our community to help people who are hurting,” said Tim VanLandingham of the Bowen Baptist Association. Following two truck loadings from our communities immediately after hurricane Laura, Rev. VanLandingham was contacted by Sanfilippo with the offer to donate the pallet of peanut butter.

One of those truck loadings happened right here in Bainbridge. Landen Bryant, Ivey’s Funeral Home, and Isaacs Bakery along with the First Baptist Church sponsored a load of supplies, according to FBC pastor Rev. Chris Humphries. Bryant delivered that truckload to Vinton, LA.

Another truck loading originated in Donalsonville at First Baptist, then picked up at two other points in the Florida panhandle. Thomas Trucking of Donalsonville provided the truck, driver and transportation to Merryville, LA northwest of Lake Charles.

VanLandingham extends a note of appreciation to the First Baptist Churches of Bainbridge and Donalsonville for inviting the Bowen Baptist Association and anyone, for that fact, to join in the effort. We are so thankful for all those who so graciously provided, and to Chris Thomas of Thomas Trucking and Landen Bryant for making the treks to the ravaged areas.

We are thankful for Sanfilippo’s generosity and for the efforts of Thomas Trucking in delivering the pallet. This peanut butter will share the ride with a load of relief supplies provided by a Florida FFA group who is sending their supplies to another hard-hit Louisiana area.
