A single vehicle accident claimed the life Tony Handford, 63, on Sunday afternoon.

According to Georgia State Patrol reports, Handford was traveling south on Bethel Road, when he failed to maintain his lane and traveled onto the west shoulder of the road. As he attempted to get back in his lane, Handford overcorrected the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to cross all lanes on Bethel Road.

Handford’s car then entered the east shoulder of Bethel Road before traveling into a ditch and overturning on the driver’s side.

Upon overturning, Handford was ejected from the vehicle and trapped under it, until Decatur County Fire and Rescue could arrive.

DCFR Chief Charlie McCann said they attempted to extricate Handford, but he had already passed away upon arrival.
