Decatur County schools return for face-to-face instruction on Monday

Superintendent Tim Cochran penned a letter to parents and students on Tuesday, announcing students would return to in person learning on Monday, August 31.
Cochran stated that after numerous meeting with local health officials and the Georgia Department of Public Health, he felt it was time to move forward with face-to-face instruction.
“Our data is looking much better as compared to the beginning of August and we understand the importance of trying to get back to a normal schedule for our students if possible,” he said in his letter.
Cochran explained that this change does not have any impact on students that enrolled in Remote Learning; they will remain in Remote Learning.
Cochran also asked in his letter that parents help make the transition to in person learning a successful one by stressing to their child the importance of wearing a mask when social distancing is not allowable. Cochran suggested students wearing a mask on the bus, during class changes and in the hallways.
Cochran additionally asked parents to stress the importance of hand washing and keeping hands away from the face.
“We have made every effort to reduce the exposure of our students and staff but we are asking to please help us and do your part by working with your children, “ he said in the letter.
Finally, Cochran asked parents to screen their child daily before sending them to school. He told parents to not send their child to school if they are not feeling well or have a temperature of 100.4 or above. He also asked that no parent send their child to school if they believe the child has been exposed to COVID-19 or is showing symptoms of the virus. He suggested erring on the side of caution if the parent is unsure on what to do and consult with a medical professional for additional advice.
“We cannot be successful alone,” he said. “We must all work as a team and help protect each other.”
Cochran thanked every parent in advance and said he is looking forward to seeing the students’ faces on Monday morning.
