Benny Ray Bell was born January 6, 1944 in Donalsonville, Ga., the son of Harry and Lillie Mae Tyson Bell. He married Terry Shepard in 1972 and they made their home in Bainbridge. Benny was a residential contractor and member of West Street Baptist Church.

Benny Bell was better known to his constituents as “Bunk”. He was a family man with a humble heart. He did not take for granted his upbringing and offered to help whenever a need arose. Bunk had a hand in building homes all over South Georgia and his customers became lifelong friends. He obviously loved the outdoors and spent his free time hunting and fishing. Bunk’s grandchildren, including those that were like his own from the days of Terry’s home daycare, gave him bragging rights on many occasions and he loved being a part of their journey.

Survivors include his wife of almost 48 years, Terry S. Bell; his children, Scarlett Bell Harrell, Myra Bell Whittaker and her husband, Brandon, and Glenn Trammell, all of Bainbridge, Sheila Trammell of Oklahoma, and Gina Rae Paxton of Virginia; his siblings, Jean McBride, Linda Faircloth, Melba & Glen Earnest, and Tommy & Sherry Bell; and his eleven grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Benny was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Waddell, Gloria Bell, Wayne Bell, and Tyson Bell.
