“Congratulations to the newsroom for being recognized by GPA,” said Publisher Mark Pope. “I appreciate the work you do throughout the year, and awards such as these indicate the quality of that work; well done.”

Among thousands of entries from newspapers across Georgia, 550 awards were presented in 46 categories to 39 newspapers.

The Bainbridge Bearcats State Championship book was noted for being a good commemorative piece for fans, along with having good development and complimentary ads.

Reporter Jill Holloway won first place for lifestyle and feature columns.

Judges commented that the columns brought about a sense of home and comfort and were popular with the readership.

Former managing editor Powell Cobb won second place for his sports columns with the judges noting that the columns were breezy and had a conversational tone that made them a joy to read.

“I’m really proud of our team,” said Holloway. “We put in countless hours of hard work to win these awards and provide the best news possible to Bainbridge and Decatur County, and we will continue to work hard to deliver the best product possible to the community.”
