Patsy “Miss Pat” Smith

Patsy “Miss Pat” Smith, 90, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Friday, June 19, 2020.

Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, a private memorial service will be held at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephen Webb officiating.

Patsy Sue Pate was born May 22, 1930, in Lumberton, Miss., the daughter of Mary Patterson. She graduated from Lumberton High School. Pat married the love of her life, Donald Ray Smith in 1954. Eventually the couple moved to Bainbridge where they became an active part of the community. Pat was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church.

“Miss Pat” has often been described as one of the kindest and most compassionate people on earth. She taught kindergarten at Wester’s Kiddie Kollege for years leaving a legacy of love for generations of children. “Miss Pat” knew each of her students personally and treated them like her own. She taught everyone the importance of family and lived each day modeling unconditional love. To “Miss Pat” every day was a day to celebrate so she decked the halls for every season and made every occasion a big deal. She loved art and music and encouraged many to share their gifts. “Miss Pat” took seriously her calling to raise a village as evidenced by the lives she touched at the kindergarten and later in Dr. Cochran’s office.

Survivors include her children, Kathy & Emory Smith and Michael & Janet Smith; her grandchildren, Heidi & Robert Smith, Joshua Higginbotham, and Ashley & Troy Weed; and her great-grandchildren, Allie & Zach Preston, Elizabeth Gay, and Mary Thomas Weed. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Don Smith.

The Smith Family would like to extend their appreciation for the kindness, compassionate care, and love received from her extended family, Annie Wilson, Shelonda Wilson, Tandra Jones, Emma Frazier, Nicka Shaw and Brenda Glaze.
